Ransom playing breakbeats. Again. In August.

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

So my good pal Matt Nordstrom a.k.a. Matty a.k.a. MRN a.k.a. MR. N, he hit me up last week about playing the BUZZLIFE x SLEAZE monthly event Save The Bees, which has been taking place the final Friday of each month, all summer long. Originally I was going to play drum’n'bass, and maybe bring a couple breakbeat tunes with me.

Then Buzzlife announced Buzz is coming back (September 21st is the start, weekly Fridays at Fur, check their site for more).

And then this Save The Bees night was announced as the final Save The Bees night.

Anden I get notified that the venue has decided “NO DRUM’N'BASS!” Probably because club owners and managers do not know the difference from a deep D-Bridge tune from a technological meltdown Limewax tune… and the last time they had some drum’n'bass, they probably fixated on the burning depths of hell opening up from the speakers when some hard tune got played. So I am told “need you to play a breaks set, they’re saying no dnb.” Fine, I’m game, but I am going to play some other stuff too I think. Anyways, enough bitching from me, I actually really want to play some more drum’n'bass sets (and not hour long or tag team sets, unless they are 3+ hour tag teams).

So here it is, the final Save The Bees event at RnR Lounge:

As some of you may or may not know, outside of my incredibly fast paced and demanding DJ career waste of time, I do a lot of web design and programming work. So I’m, as the kids say, “all up in the blogosphere n’ shit.” So it came as an absolute delight for me to discover that our 404 error page was featured in Smashing Magazine (a web design and development blog).. Yay! This really has nothing to do with drum and bass but I don’t really care so yaaaaaaaaay!

That is all. Carry on.

Old School Friday

Monday, August 20th, 2007

It’s gonna be nothing but old school business this Friday on Expansion Broadcast. I personally love these nights on the show and this one looks to be our best one yet. More than likely we’ll have Godfather Sage and Cakes taking it way back for us. I know Deinfamous is all over the “old school tech step” front and I’m not quite sure what Ransom has in store for us just yet but I’m sure it’ll be “kick’ace.” Stay tuned. This Friday will be delicious!

Update…

Here’s the breakdown on sets I’ve received thus far:

  • Cakes: Theme wise I was planning on 97-99 deep soundscape stuff. I’m talking extremely noodly and melancholy…
  • Ransom: …I will cover the 1996 to 2002 spectrum, mainly playing tech-step but some other stuff sprinkled in.
  • Godfather Sage: i’m playing 94-96 deep shit. crunchy beats with a touch of light and dark.

Brandon Riggs: The Iron Man

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Looks like ol’ Bradon Riggs will be doing the show solo tonight. Don’t you worry boys and younger boys girls I’m sure he’ll make it magical short.

Things get crazy at 7 PM EST so be there here!

Come to find out, there is more than just drum and bass out there

I just wanted to give a quick plug to another local podcast that I’ve been really enjoying lately. The podcast, by DJ E-Money (he once played on the show as “Less Than Three”) and titled “Married To The Streets“, sports pretty hot selection of dance jamz (in case you didn’t get the memo, putting “z’s” at the end of wordz iz cool again). His latest mix, Stateside Jamz Dot Biz is definitely one of my personal favorites featuring the likes of Salt ‘N Peppa, Armand Van Helden, Justice, Daft Punk, and Basement Jaxx. Also be sure to check out his all 90’s hip hop/house mix not so cleverly titled “hip hop and house roots for a 90s child“.
