No show Friday the 4th. Independence + 1 | EXBC -1

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

How’s it going super fans? Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but our usual live EXBC recording will not be happening tomorrow, July 4th. According to Ricky Ricardo it would be unpatriotic of us to record on the 4th and who I am to argue with patriotism? (Where is that sarcasm tag?)

On the brighter side though, this won’t mean that we won’t have a podcast for you next week (how’s that for a confusing sentence!). Dubstep extraordinaire, Ill.Selection, has recorded a studio mix of his own work which we’ll be posting next Monday so definitely be on the look out for that.

EXBC 3.5 released

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Howdy friends.

Just wanted to let everyone know I finally launched the new version of the site. Its nothing major as you can probably already tell. I really just wanted to spiffy up the design a bit and fix some other things that had been bugging me. I haven’t had the opportunity to test it on a lot of different browsers so I do anticipate there are some bugs that still need squashing. I am, however, gonna say this much right now - if you’re using IE6 (Microsoft Internet Explorer 6) or below, tough buttons. From this point on IE6 is dead to me. I don’t have the time or much feel the need to go and fix all the silly HasLayout and misc PNG transparency issues. (If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you’re a better man than I.)

Anyway, not much else to say. Do check out the new EXBC calendars page. Right now I only have 1 calendar running. Soon you’ll be able to subscribe to the EXBC weekly show lineup in your favorite web or desktop calendar as well. (I’m personally a huge fan of Google Calendar.) For now, you can subscribe to all our upcoming gigs and live appearances. WhooRaaah!

Oh, if you spot any obvious bugs, please leave a comment in this post. I’ll work on sorting those out throughout the week. Please let me know what browser you’re using, the version number, and what steps I can take to recreate the bug. Many thanks!

Upcoming events that have my name on the bill.

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Pushing my name out there and waving the EXBC flag at a couple events in June:

06/21/2008 Gridlok & Icey event
presented by Steez Promotions
at Bedrock in Baltimore, MD

Event details are here, and the full line-up should be announced shortly. In the words of Houston, expect some heavy rave Djing. I will probably be playing drum’n'bass most of the time, but who knows, I might delve in to some other music as I see fit.

06/27/2008 LODA
presented by 88 Music
at Gallery in Silver Spring, MD

A few things on this one. Number one, this is a three hour set in the main room, playing from 9:30PM to 12:30AM. That’s big. Number two, the 88 Music guys have told me I can play anything I want, and I intend to do just that. Expect it to start slow and chill, and hopefully by the end there will be people swinging from the rafters. And three, this will be my first performance for the 88 Music guys, and I am really looking forward to working with them, I dig what they have been doing with their other events, their blog (www.eightyeightdc.com/88blog/) and their new weekly, LODA, which is starting on June 6th.

So come out, say hi, shake a leg, call for rewinds, get involved.

IllEffect is gonna be live @ Buzz this Friday, May 30th.

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that I’m gonna be performing at Buzz this Friday. I’m gonna be on from midnight to close in the Mink room. The cover is gonna be $10 before midnight and $20 after. I don’t know if there’s gonna be any reduced list action but in the event that there is, go ahead and leave me your full name as it appears on your license either in the comments to this post or you can send me a message directly. Feel free to include all your buddies names in there as well.

No podcast this week [-] / IllEffect back in the hot seat this Friday [+]

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Sad news indeed. There was apparently a recording issue last Friday which unfortunately means you kids will have to make do without the soothing sounds of the EXBC family gracing your ear buds this week.

But don’t start filling up the bathtub and dropping the toaster in just yet. My fine self will be back this week to host another edition of Expansion Broadcast which means: drum and bass is back! Hurrrah! I’ll even have a guest this week, DJ Malleus. And for all the drum and bass hataz out there, there will still be dubstep for the second half the show (twirls finger)… wooooooooopty doo.

So much dubstep, so little IllEffect

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Greetings friends.

I just wanted to let everyone know I’m gonna be taking a bit of time off the next few weeks. I won’t bore you with a long winded woe-is-me story but the gist of it is, I’m a busy, busy boy as of late. As I’m sure many of you know, I’m getting married in the coming months so as you can probably imagine, I got lots of other things to tackle at the moment. Thankfully, the boys up north, Whighzeguy and Ricky Ricardo, have no lives (that’s what you get for living in Baltimore) are kind enough to fill in during my brief absence. Hurray! So that being said, this week will be part one of the aptly named “Dubathon” and will continue into next week’s show as well. I should be back in business on the 23rd of May but until then, we’ll have plenty of drum and bass and/or dubstep mixes for ya.

Oh and… thanks for listening :)

Tonight’s show

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Howdy friends! I just wanted to make a quick post and let everyone know that I will be taking the night off this evening. However, Mr. and Mrs. Jukata will be taking over the hosting slot for the drum and bass portion of the show with special guest Brian Arsenault. Whighzeguy will be handling the dubstep portion of the evening. Hurrah!

Lastly, I’d like to point everyone over to our new survey (http://www.podtrac.com/audience/start-survey.aspx?pubid=OSVAd9xANWo$&ver=short). If you could, please take a few moments to fill that out. We’d be very appreciative. :)

The Undercovers- Shaken Not Stirred (a deep, soulful house mix)

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

This just in from Signal (of Robot Death Squad) AKA “Bryan J”:

So, myself and fellow dj, Ricky Ricardo decided that the Bmore/DC metropolitan area needs us to inject some soul back into the dance music scene. Being Drum & Bass/Dubstep dj’s and producers, what the hell do we know, right? wrong.

We have decided to teamed up to form the soul dildo of a supergroup, The Undercovers, bringing panty dropping to a whole new level. So, here is the first mix of what hopefully could be a long series of house mixes, this one being mixed by myself.

The last tune is an original, with a vocalist I have been working with.
Enjoy the mix!

Shaken Not Stirred, Bryan J Deep House Mix

  2. Soularis ft. Denise Johnson - Fire
  3. Teddy Douglas feat. Margaret Grace - Whatcha Gonna Do
  4. Blaze - Listen (Roots Vocal Mix)
  5. Yass feat L.T. Brown - I’m Free
